About Eric

Eric Kaz

When I was seven years old, all I wanted to do was listen to country music like The Carter Family and Bill Monroe and be a singing cowboy, like Gene Autry.

What I didn’t know way back then, was that 20 years later, I would co-write the perennial love song, “Love Has No Pride”, recorded by Ronstadt, Raitt, Rita Coolidge, Lynn Anderson and many others.  Since then, I wrote and recorded 2 solo albums with Atlantic Records, wrote and recorded 2 albums with the group American Flyer, (the first one produced by George Martin) and started a long collaboration with Pure Prairie League founder, Craig Fuller, and recorded one album with him.  Eric recorded two solo albums for the Japanese indie label, Slice of Life Records, the second one, in 2015, containing 7 new songs.

Thirty years after being a singing cowboy wannabe, i co-wrote most of ex-Eagle Randy Meisner’s first solo project that spawned two Top 20 hits.  I co-wrote (with Wendy Waldman) the Top 5 hit “Heartbeat” for Miami Vice star Don Johnson and began to collaborate with Michael Bolton and co-wrote his 1st # 1 A/C hit “That’s What Love Is All About”.

My collaboration with Steve Dorff started in 1988.  Steve and I co-wrote “I Cross My Heart”, #1 for George Strait and our song was featured in the motion picture, "Pure Country", directed by Chris Cain.  Steve And I co-wrote “Hypnotize The Moon”,  #1 for Clay Walker.  I’m proud of our work together and grateful to have Steve as a friend.

In 2002 I toured Japan in clubs and concerts and released a CD of basement tapes, home demos and live versions of early work on Slice of Life Records.

In between all the projects, the songs have been on countless gold, platinum and multi platinum projects, recorded by a diverse group of artists such as Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, 6 songs recorded by Linda Ronstadt, 6 songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Patti Austin, Baillie & the Boys, Moe Bandy, Joan Baez, Suzy Bogguss,  Cher, Garfunkel, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Kim Carnes, Peter Allen, Tanya Tucker, Tracy Nelson, Leo Sayer, Sawyer Brown Band, Dolly Parton, The Dirt Band, Alison Krauss, Sarah Brightman, Michelle Wright, Paul Young and many others.

I've been the recipient of two ASCAP Pop Award honors. and of four ASCAP Country Award honors as both writer and publisher, a winner of the Music City News Top Country Hits Award for "I Cross My Heart", had four Top 10 Country hit singles, including two #1, four Top 20 Pop hit singles including one #5 and Four Top 10 A/C hit singles including one #1.
